A MOTHER of three whose world was turned upside down by breast cancer is set to take on the challenge of a lifetime to raise awareness of the disease.
Liz Bryan, from Great Comberton is hoping to raise thousands of pounds for Breast Cancer Care when she embarks on a 4,000 metre trek along the Peruvian Inca Trail, Machu Picchu, in September.
The charity is particularly close to Liz's heart after her sister Jane died from breast cancer nine years ago.
And tragedy struck for a second time in the summer of 2010 when Liz herself was diagnosed with the life-threatening disease after the birth of her third child.
After going through a full mastectomy and chemotherapy, Liz is now back on her feet and hoping to give something back to the charity which helped her throughout her battle.
And she is appealing to Observer readers to help her reach her goal of raising at least £4,000 before jetting off with her fellow trekkers on September 7.
"While I was going through chemotherapy I watched the same trek done by Denise Van Outen and Fearne Cotton and thought to myself 'wow, that would be a fantastic adventure'," she told the Observer.
"I've not done anything like this before but its something I've always wanted to do and I hope I can raise as much money as possible.
"I recently went to a Breast Cancer Care seminar in Birmingham and met 30 fantastic women with the same fears and hopes. We were given great information and advice by the charity in a weekend I will never forget in this difficult journey."
Liz said the trauma of losing a sister to cancer and then being diagnosed herself had hit the family hard.
"The worst thing was telling my mum and dad because I knew they were going to be in a mess especially after they had just lost a daughter to breast cancer," she added.
"It was a horrible and difficult time.
"Having breast cancer does make you think a lot more about your life though and I've decided to live life to the full and not sit back."
