ROAD users who come across potholes are being urged to report them as soon as possible.

Despite no repeat of the prolonged sub-zero conditions which froze the Vale last year and led to 22,000 potholes being fixed on the county's roads people are still being urged to keep an eye out.

The colder temperatures winter brings mean this is the time when problems are most likely to occur on highway surfaces because of the freeze-thaw cycle where water freezes and expands.

Last year more than 120 miles of new road surface was laid in Worcestershire and gangs are out and about every day finding and fixing.

And to make things easier people can now use the county council's online reporting system at www.worcestershire.gov.uk/reportapothole to alert them to any defects. It allows people to report the nature of the problem and its location as well as upload images.

Coun John Smith, cabinet member for highways and transport, said: "Anyone who spots a pothole on the roads can play a part in getting it fixed by reporting it.

"The teams that find and fix problems do a fantastic job all year round but it's usually during the winter when they are at their busiest. As is always the case they'll be out and about repairing roads in the days, weeks and months ahead."

Anyone not able to log on to the website can also call the Worcestershire Hub on 0845 607 2005 to report any highways issues.
